Why Barbarian Is Excellent for Beginners

Barbarian is almost as simple as Fighter but with a more aggressive playstyle. Rage gives you physical damage resistance and bonus damage. You’re extremely hard to kill. No spell management. Just rage and hit things.

Level Progression

• 1: Rage (2 uses/day, Bonus Action). +2 melee damage, physical resistance.
• 2: Reckless Attack (Advantage on attacks, enemies get Advantage vs you). Danger Sense (Advantage on DEX saves).
• 3: Berserker. Frenzy (Bonus Action attack while raging). Frenzied Strike.
• 4: Feat: Great Weapon Master
• 5: Extra Attack. Fast Movement (+10ft speed).
• 8: Feat: +2 STR
• 12: Feat: Alert or Savage Attacker

Combat: Rage + Reckless + GWM

1. Bonus Action: Rage
2. Reckless Attack (free, every turn — Advantage on all attacks)
3. GWM toggled ON (Advantage offsets -5 penalty → net positive)
4. Frenzied Strike (Bonus Action attack)
5. Attack + Extra Attack (2 main attacks + 1 Bonus Action attack = 3 attacks/turn at level 5)

Best Gear

• Weapon: Everburn Blade → Sword of Justice → Balduran’s Giantslayer
• Armor: Unarmored Defense (CON mod to AC). Or wear medium armor (Barbarians have proficiency).
• No armor needed — high CON + Unarmored Defense = solid AC
