Best BG3 Helmets & Headwear Guide: Every Powerful Hat & Where to Find It (Acts 1-3)
Complete BG3 helmets guide. Every best-in-slot helmet and headwear in Acts 1-3 with exact locations. Best helms for melee, casters, and support — ranked and organized.

Why Helmets Matter
Most helmets in BG3 offer more than just AC — they provide unique effects you can’t get anywhere else. The right helmet can give you permanent Arcane Acuity, free crit immunity, or set your Intelligence to 17 while you dump the stat entirely.

Best Helmet by Build
Melee (STR/DEX)
Helm of Balduran (Act 3). Stun immunity alone makes it S-Tier — the endgame is full of mind flayers that stun. +1 AC, crit immunity, passive HP regen. Best helmet in the game.
Haste Helm (Act 1) → Grymskull Helm (Act 1) → Helm of Balduran (Act 3).
Spellcaster
Helmet of Arcane Acuity (Act 2). +2 spell DC per weapon hit, stacking to +10. A Swords Bard or dual-wield caster goes from +5 DC to +15 DC in one turn. Your spells become nearly unresistable.
Warped Headband of Intellect (Act 1) → Helmet of Arcane Acuity (Act 2) → Mask of Soul Perception (Act 3).
Cleric / Support
Cap of Curing (Act 1) or Grymskull Helm (Act 1) for crit immunity. Upgrade to Helm of Balduran in Act 3.
The INT 17 Trick (Warped Headband Strategy)
The Warped Headband of Intellect sets your INT to 17. This means you can:
- Respec at Withers
- Dump INT to 8
- Put those 9 points into DEX (16), CON (16), and WIS (12)
- Wear the headband → INT = 17 again
You just gained ~4 extra stat points for free. This works on ANY class — give it to your party face for better Arcana/Investigation/Religion checks, or to a Wizard who can now afford 16 DEX and 16 CON.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I hide my helmet in BG3?
Yes. In the inventory screen, above your helmet slot, there's a small eye icon. Click it to toggle helmet visibility. You keep the stats but your character's face/hair shows. This works per character. You can also set it from the character sheet.
What's the best helmet for a beginner?
Haste Helm (Act 1, Blighted Village) gives +3m movement for the first 3 turns of combat. It's available at level 2-3 and stays useful the entire game. For spellcasters, the Warped Headband of Intellect (INT = 17) from Lump the Enlightened fixes any Wizard's stat problems.
