Act 1 Bosses: Learning the Ropes

Commander Zhalk (Nautiloid) — D Tier
- HP: 150 | Level: 1
- Why he’s easy: You’re not supposed to kill him. Run to the transponder. The mind flayer tanks.
- Loot goal: Command: Drop his Everburn Blade. Grab it and run.
Owlbear Mother — C Tier
- HP: 98 | Level: 3
- Strategy: Kill the cub? No — kill the mother, spare the cub. She hits hard but has no gimmicks.
- Bring: High AC tank to absorb her multi-attack.
Phase Spider Matriarch — C Tier
- HP: 125 | Level: 4
- Gimmick: Spawns on web bridges. Burn the webs with Fire Bolt — she falls, takes 30-50 fall damage, goes prone.
- Bring: Fire damage. Kill spiderlings first.
Auntie Ethel — B Tier
- HP: 145 (including clones) | Level: 5
- Gimmick: Illusory clones. Magic Missile dispels each clone (1 hit = 1 clone gone).
- Key reward: Spare her at low HP for Hag Hair (+1 to any ability score).
- Bring: Magic Missile. Protection from Evil and Good.
Grym (Adamantine Forge) — A Tier
- HP: 304 | Level: 5-6
- Gimmick: Near-immune to damage unless Superheated (standing in lava). Use the forge hammer!
- Strategy: Lure Grym into lava → he becomes Superheated → lure him to center platform → pull forge lever → hammer drops for 150+ damage. Repeat 2-3 times.
- Bring: Ranged character to bait. Use the environment.
Act 2 Bosses: The Difficulty Spike
Ketheric Thorm / Apostle of Myrkul — B Tier
- HP: 210 (Ketheric) + 240 (Myrkul) | Level: 8-9
- Three phases: Rooftop fight → Mind Flayer Colony navigation → Myrkul avatar
- Myrkul gimmick: Cannot move. Bone chill platforms prevent healing. Free Dame Aylin immediately.
- Bring: Radiant damage. Blind spell (Myrkul has low WIS). Stay off bone chill platforms.
Act 3 Bosses: The Gauntlet

Orin the Red — B Tier
- HP: 210 | Level: 11-12
- Gimmick: Unstoppable (10 stacks). Multi-hit attacks (Magic Missile, Eldritch Blast, Fighter) remove stacks.
- Bring: Kill cultists in corners first. Then burst Orin.
Gortash — B Tier
- HP: 250 | Level: 11-12
- Gimmick: Reflectoguard (reflects projectiles). Grenades. Traps.
- Pre-fight: Disable Steel Watch at the Foundry. Makes the fight dramatically easier.
- Bring: Melee damage. Don’t use ranged attacks.
Cazador Szarr — A Tier
- HP: 300+ | Level: 11-12
- Gimmick: Ritual drains Astarion + 7 spawn. Daylight spell trivializes him.
- Bring: Daylight (Cleric level 3 spell). Deals 20 radiant/turn + gives him Disadvantage.
Viconia DeVir — A Tier
- HP: 250+ | Level: 11-12
- Gimmick: 12+ Sharrans spam Darkness everywhere. You can’t see.
- Bring: Daylight (dispels Darkness in 60ft radius). Spirit Guardians. AoE spells.
Ansur (Undead Dragon) — A Tier
- HP: 400 | Level: 12
- Gimmick: Massive lightning breath AoE. Flight.
- Bring: Globe of Invulnerability. Lightning Resistance potions. Radiant damage (undead).
Raphael — S Tier
- HP: 666 | Level: 12
- Gimmick: 4 Soul Pillars make him invulnerable. 6 cambion adds. Hellfire spells.
- Strategy: Destroy pillars with Force damage → Hold Monster (he has +0 WIS save!) → burst.
- Bring: Globe of Invulnerability. Hope’s Divine Intervention. Counterspell.
Netherbrain — S Tier
- HP: 350 | Level: 12
- Gimmick: 5-turn time limit. Platform climb → portal → psyche.
- Strategy: Summon ALL allies. Kill Mind Flayer Arcanists. Use the Netherstones. Burst the brain.
- Bring: ALL your saved scrolls and potions. Force damage. Disintegrate.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the hardest boss in BG3?
Raphael (House of Hope, Act 3) is widely considered the hardest boss. He has 666 HP, four Soul Pillars that make him nearly invulnerable, cambion adds, and can one-shot characters with Hellfire spells. Preparation (Hold Monster, Globe of Invulnerability, destroying pillars) is mandatory.
Which Act 1 boss should I fight first?
Start with the Owlbear Mother (level 3) and the Goblin Camp leaders (level 4). Avoid Auntie Ethel until level 5, and the Phase Spider Matriarch until you have Fire Bolt or Alchemist's Fire to burn her web bridges.
