BG3 Camp Supplies Guide: Where to Find Food & How to Long Rest
Complete BG3 camp supplies guide covering where to find food, how long rests work, supply costs per difficulty, and tips for never running out of camp resources.
How Camp Supplies and Long Rests Work
In Baldur’s Gate 3, camp supplies are the resource that gates your long rests. A long rest fully restores your party’s hit points, spell slots, and most class resources. It also advances time and triggers camp-based companion story events — which means long resting is not just a mechanical necessity but a narrative mechanic.
Camp supplies consist of any food and drink items you find throughout the world. Every piece of food has a “camp supply” value: a single apple might be worth 3 supplies, a bottle of wine worth 4, and a full roasted rothe rib worth 12. When you initiate a long rest, the game automatically selects food items from your inventory and camp chest to reach the required supply threshold.
On Explorer and Balanced difficulty, each long rest costs 40 camp supplies. On Tactician and Honour Mode, the cost doubles to 80 camp supplies. If you do not have enough supplies, you can take a “partial rest,” which recovers half your hit points and half your spell slots but does not advance companion storylines or reset certain world events.
Best Places to Find Camp Supplies
Act 1 — Wilderness and Emerald Grove: The Druid Grove area is packed with food. Check every crate, barrel, and sack in the storage areas near the tiefling blacksmith Dammon. The kobold area near the main gate has several barrels of fish. Arron, the halfling trader in the Grove, sells a supply pack that contains 40 camp supplies for a reasonable price — buy these whenever he restocks (after long rests and level-ups). The abandoned village (Blighted Village) has supply packs in the apothecary’s cellar and in several houses.
Act 1 — Underdark: The myconid colony has several food caches. The Arcane Tower has preserved food supplies. The duergar camp at the beach carries dried meat and alcohol supplies.
Act 1 — Goblin Camp: The goblin feast area in the Shattered Sanctum has massive amounts of food — roasted dwarf parts, alcohol barrels, and general provisions. If you are willing to fight the goblins or sneak through, this is the single largest food cache in Act 1.
Act 2 — Shadow-Cursed Lands: Last Light Inn is your primary supply hub. The bar area has food and the quartermaster Talli sells supply packs. The House of Healing and the Mason’s Guild also contain food items. The Waning Moon tavern, despite being ruined, has significant alcohol supplies.
Act 3 — Baldur’s Gate: The city is abundant with food. The Elfsong Tavern, various market stalls in the Lower City, and the kitchens of large estates (like Cazador’s Palace and Lady Jannath’s Estate) all have substantial food supplies. Most taverns and inns throughout the city sell supply packs.
Managing Camp Supplies Efficiently
Pick up every piece of food you see. Unlike weapons and armor, food items weigh very little individually, and since you can send them directly to camp (right-click, “Send to Camp”), there is no reason not to loot all food. Your camp chest has unlimited storage.
The Goodberry spell (available to Rangers and Druids) creates berries that each count as 1 camp supply. While inefficient on its own, it is free and can supplement your supplies.
A Hireling Cleric can cast Create Food and Water, which produces camp supplies. You can hire a Cleric hireling from Withers, cast this spell daily, and build up a supply buffer.
Important Long Rest Timing
Long resting too infrequently is a common beginner mistake. Many companion story scenes, romances, and critical plot developments only trigger during long rests. If you push through too many encounters without resting, you can miss key story beats. There is no penalty for long resting frequently in most parts of the game — the main exception is when you approach areas where time-sensitive events are implied (like the burning inn at Waukeen’s Rest or the newspaper quest in Act 3).
Quick Tips
- Send all food to camp immediately — do not carry it in your inventory.
- Buy supply packs from every vendor who sells them; their gold cost is trivial.
- Check all barrels, crates, sacks, and shelves — food is hidden everywhere.
- A Druid or Ranger with Goodberry provides a small but free daily supply cushion.
- Drink wine and alcohol for the camp supply value, not for the temporary effects.
- On Honour Mode, plan to spend 80 supplies per rest — always keep a buffer of 200+ supplies.
- Partial rests can be chained to trigger queued camp events without spending supplies.
