Setup: Before Entering

  • Take off heavy armor (gives disadvantage on swimming). Medium/light armor or clothing only.
  • Prepare Haste, Misty Step, Dimension Door, Fly, Longstrider on everyone
  • Take Potions of Speed for every character
  • Bring Wyll (Duke Ravengard is his father)
  • Prepare summons (elementals, spiritual weapon) to block corridors

Prison Layout

The Iron Throne is an underwater prison with a central corridor and cells branching off:

  • North corridor: Duke Ravengard’s cell
  • East cells: Gondian prisoners
  • West cells: More Gondians + Omeluum (friendly mind flayer)
  • South: Submarine ladder (your exit)

Step-by-Step Rescue Plan

Turn 1-2: Open Cells + Move Prisoners

  • Cast Haste on 2 party members. Drink speed potions with others.
  • Open Duke Ravengard’s cell (north). Use Dimension Door or Misty Step to get him halfway to the ladder.
  • Open east cells. Gondians will Dash toward the ladder automatically.
  • Send one fast character west for Omeluum.

Turn 3-4: Midpoint

  • Omeluum can Teleport to Submarine once freed — just open his cell door.
  • Continue escorting Ravengard. Fish enemies will attack him — cast Sanctuary on him.
  • The Gondians in the west corridor need path cleared of sahuagin enemies.

Turn 5-6: Final Sprint

  • Everyone must be within Dash range of the ladder by turn 5.
  • Use all remaining Misty Steps and Dimension Doors to reach the ladder.
  • Any character not on the ladder tile at the end of turn 6 = dead.
Do NOT leave anyone behind. If your main character doesn’t reach the ladder, it’s game over. The Gondians will die if not escorted — kill the sahuagin blocking their path.

6 turns. After turn 6, the prison explodes and everyone still inside dies. You must rescue prisoners AND get your party back to the submarine ladder before the timer ends.
