BG3 Necromancy of Thay: Complete Guide to the Forbidden Book Quest
Complete BG3 Necromancy of Thay guide. Where to find the Dark Amethyst, how to open the book, all Wisdom saving throws, Speak with Dead spell reward, and the Danse Macabre.
Where to Find the Book
Blighted Village → Apothecary’s Cellar. Behind the counter, use the lever hidden behind crates. Descend into the cellar. The Necromancy of Thay is on a pedestal behind a locked gate (open with a button nearby).
Where to Find the Dark Amethyst
The Dark Amethyst is required to open the book. It’s in the Whispering Depths (spider cave under the Blighted Village). After defeating the Phase Spider Matriarch, check the glowing purple crystal cluster on the ground near her nest.
Opening the Book
Place the Dark Amethyst in the book. Three Wisdom saving throws:
- DC 10: Unlock the first chapter. Speak with Dead spell permanently.
- DC 15: Unlock the second chapter. +1 to WIS saving throws.
- DC 20: Unlock the third chapter (Act 3 only). Danse Macabre spell — summon 4 ghouls.
Act 3: The Final Chapter
At Sorcerous Sundries (Lower City), find the Thay book in the vault. Read it to unlock the final chapter at DC 20. Reward: Danse Macabre — summon 4 ghouls once per long rest. Powerful summon for the endgame.
