What Is the Dark Urge?

The Dark Urge is the only Origin character with full customization (race, class, appearance). You have amnesia and a mysterious, violent impulse that surfaces throughout the game. Unlike other Origins, your backstory is deeply tied to the main plot.

Resist vs Embrace: The Core Choice

Resist the Urge (Recommended)

You fight against the violent impulses. This path is harder — you’ll face Wisdom saving throws and may lose control — but the payoff is the most emotionally satisfying story in BG3.

Key Resist Moments:

• Act 1: Resist killing Gale when he reaches through the portal
• Act 1: Resist killing Alfira (or let it happen — it’s unavoidable the first time)
• Act 2: Resist killing your lover/companion (hard WIS save at camp)
• Act 3: Reject Bhaal at his temple

Resist Rewards: The best redemption narrative. Withers resurrects you. You’re free.

Embrace the Urge

Give in to every violent impulse. Darker path with unique mechanical rewards.

Embrace Rewards:

• Deathstalker Mantle (Act 1): Invisibility after every kill. Extremely powerful item.
• Slayer Form (Act 2): Transform into a monstrous creature. High damage, unique abilities.
• Bhaal’s Chosen (Act 3): Unique dialogue, intimidation options, evil ending.

Critical Dark Urge Events

Act 1: Alfira (UNAVOIDABLE)

Alfira visits your camp. Regardless of choice, she dies by your hand. This is unavoidable. Hide the body or confess. A second visit from Quil Grootslang replaces her if Alfira is unavailable.

Act 2: The Butler’s Demand

Sceleritas Fel demands you kill your romantic partner (or the companion with highest approval). You can resist (WIS save) or comply. Resisting leads to a touching scene where your partner helps you through it.

Act 3: Bhaal’s Temple

Confront Orin. She challenges you to a duel for Bhaal’s favor. Win. Then Bhaal himself speaks: accept his gift or reject it. Rejecting Bhaal kills you — but Withers resurrects you, free of the Urge forever. This is the canon redemption ending.
