Act 1: The Vampire’s Trust
- Let him feed on you at camp. Trust him. He reveals he’s a vampire spawn.
- Let him feed on enemies in combat (Happy buff: +1 to all d20 rolls)
- At the tiefling party: he propositions you directly if approval is high enough. Accept.
- First romance scene: in the woods. He’s performative — this is important later.
Act 2: The Mask Cracks
After killing Yurgir for Raphael: Raphael translates Astarion’s scars. The truth: Cazador plans to sacrifice Astarion (and 7,000 others) in a ritual. Astarion starts questioning whether he can ever be free.
At camp: he admits he seduced you initially as protection. But it became real. Amazing vulnerability scene. Choose: “You’re enough as you are.”
Act 3: Cazador’s Palace
Defeat Cazador. Astarion faces his choice: ascend (kill 7,000 spawn, become Vampire Ascendant) or refuse.
Best romance ending: Refuse the ritual. Astarion stabs Cazador repeatedly, crying. He’s finally free. In the epilogue: he can’t stand in sunlight anymore (runs away comically), but he’s found peace. He’s grateful to you. “You saved me.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you romance Astarion as a good character?
Yes. While Astarion approves of selfish/chaotic choices, you can romance him while being mostly good. Key is: support his autonomy, never judge him for being a vampire, let him feed on you, and kill Cazador without letting him ascend.
